As apart of Jóia Findeis’ Chamber Recital, there will be a premiere of São Miguel Anemoia for Flute, Viola, and Harp. São Miguel Anemoia was written in dedication to my mom, who’s from the Azores, Portugal. The word anemoia refers to the nostalgia for a time or place one has never personally experienced or known, and that word completely defines my connection to Portugal through the culture my mom has presented to me throughout my life. This connection to Portugal is something Jóia and I share and I’m incredibly honored to be given the opportunity to compose a work connecting the traditional genres that we’ve both experienced.
