Program Note: Luminosity for Wind Quintet (2025) was initially written as the third movement to my moment passed (2024) for OUT Ensemble as a part of the LGBTQ+ Mental Health Awareness Concert; Threads Woven. The movement was eventually scrapped and rewritten to focus the theoretical elements better and separate it from a piece that is more emotionally driven, such as my moment passed. Luminosity follows a day with direct references to rags that are set in parts of the day and night cycle. This day is marred by sleeping through alarms, a hot summer afternoon, and a late-night party. It's also a direct reference to my final concert as an undergraduate in the Music of India Ensemble, where we followed the day and night cycle as our program. Luminosity is dedicated to my undergraduate ethnomusicology professor, research advisor, and mentor, Dr. Suhail Yusuf Khan, who pushed me to expand my influence beyond traditional Western classical music while attempting to find connections between my heritage and the Music of India.
